Q: Does the cannon pixma iX6850 allow manual feed of thick card and heavy photo paper up to A3+ size from the back like my current HP OfficeJetPro K8600 which I wish to replace with something similar but with both USB and WIFI connectivity.
I mainly use it for large size printing of photos of my art work and art club posters with with very very low usage.
Alternatively does HP do an updated replacement for my OfficeJetPro K600 which I love ?
Question by: Bill Hill on 14 Dec 2016 22:37:00
A: Hi Bill,

Thank you for contacting Printerbase.

Yes the Canon Pixma iX6850 has a 20 sheet upper/rear feed tray for card stock up to 300gsm. Therefor you can manually feed media through this tray. I can also confirm this machine has both USB and Wireless features.

Q: Can the Canon Pixma iX6850 print on CD's and DVD's?
Question by: Chris on 4 Jan 2017 09:14:00
A: Hi Chris,

Thank you for contacting Printerbase.

Unfortunately not however take a look at the Canon Pixma Pro 100s - http://www.printerbase.co.uk/pixma-pro-100s-a3-colour-inkjet-printer.html?

I can confirm this has disc printing features. This is the cheapest A3 machine we have with this feature. However if A3 isn't important you could take a look at the Canon XP-55 - http://www.printerbase.co.uk/expression-photo-xp-55-a4-colour-inkjet-printer.html?

Please do let me know if you require any further information.

Q: I've heard rave reviews about this printer and on the verge of buying one, but I need to know what the smallest size it will print to. My Canon MG2450 doesn't go down small enough. I need to regularly print size A6 105mm x 148mm, will it go down this far without cutting off the image or text when it gets to within 1cm of the page edge?
Question by: Fred Foster on 25 Apr 2017 16:50:00
A: Hi Fred,

Thanks for getting in touch.

The Canon iX6850 will accept the following paper sizes -

A3+, A3, A4, A5, B4, B5, LTR, LGL, LDR, 25 x 30cm, 20 x 25cm, 13 x 18cm, 10 x 15cm

Therefore the closest size I can see that will be suitable for you is the 10 x 15cm.

I hope this helps.

Q: require a portable printer that is either battery powered or will power off a laptop through USB connection that also prints A3 and A4
Question by: peter Milburn on 24 Sep 2017 21:02:00
A: Hi Peter,

Thank you for contacting Printerbase.

We don't have any A4/A3 portable printers that are battery powered therefore your only option really is to go for something like the Canon iX6850 - https://www.printerbase.co.uk/canon-pixma-ix6850-a3-colour-inkjet-printer.html

Dimensions (W x D x H) 584 x 310 x 159 mm
Weight 8.1 kg

Alternatively we also have the HP OfficeJet 7110 - https://www.printerbase.co.uk/hp-officejet-7110-a3-wide-format-eprinter.html

Dimensions (W x D x H) 585 x 419 x 189 mm (trays closed)
Weight 8.5 kg
Please do let me know if you require any further information.

Q: I am looking to print greeting cards, will this Canon PIXMA be suitable?
Question by: David on 20 Jan 2017 08:59:00
A: Hi David,

thanks for getting in touch.

Yes, the Canon PIXMA iX6850 will produce great print quality, while the iX6850 can also print up to 300gsm which is a good weight for greeting cards. However, if you are looking to print hundreds of greeting cards a day then this printer wouldn’t be suitable and you may want to look at other alternates.

I hope this helps.

Thanks. Grace.

Q: Would this printer do crisp font on wedding stationery using 270gsm pearlescent card?
Question by: Ella stables on 7 Nov 2017 22:00:00
A: Hi Ella,

Thank you for contacting Printerbase.

Yes this machine should handle 270gsm card stock providing you do change the paper setting within the print driver before printing. This lets the printer know what type of media you are using. This also has a rear/upper paper feed therefore this will minimise the amount of curl. Whereas if you was to buy a printer with a front feed tray the media could curl as it passes through the machine.

Does this printer work well for edible printing?

A: Hi Jessica,

Thank you for contacting Printerbase.

Unfortunately this isn't something we can advise on as we don't sell edible inks. You would need to contact a specialist company who sell both the printer and edible ink cartridges.

Sorry about that Jessica.

Q: I work on an iPad Pro and need to use it via wifi and have read a couple of reviews that say it’s not great this way, what is your opinion please?..
Question by: Michelle on 23 Apr 2018 10:30:00
A: Hi Michelle, thanks for the question,

The Canon PIXMA iX6850 is Apple AirPrint compatible therefore you can print from an iPad Pro, however this is for printing from a computer/laptop not an iPad. If you want to print from an iPad then you can only use the AirPrint feature and you are limited to what settings you can use.

I hope this helps

Q: You've told two people that this machine does not print on discs but the adjacent product specification says it does! Which is correct?

Another question: does the iX6850 have a scanning facility? Thanks.

A: Hi Garry,

Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately no this machine hasn't got disc printing features therefore I will speak to our website team to get this updated straight away. In answer to your second question no this machine won't allow you to scan or copy and this only has printing features.

I hope this helps.

Q: Can this print on 300gsm matte cardstock? And is it compatible with Mac OS 10.13.4?

Thank you,
Question by: Matthew on 21 May 2018 18:05:00
A: Hi Matthew,

Thank you for contacting Printerbase.

Canon don't list this as a supported media type however we have had customers say they have been able to print on 300gsm card stock with no problems. Canon only support 300gsm photo paper not cardstock. Cardstock tends to be a lot thicker than photo paper hence why Canon don't support this.

If you wanted a printer that supports 300gsm card stock then you would need to look at one of the professional photo printers. Something like the Canon Pro 10s - https://www.printerbase.co.uk/canon-pixma-pro-10s-a3-colour-inkjet-printer.html?

This is currently out of stock however we are expecting stock around the 6th of June.

In regards to compatibility with Mac OS X 10.13 yes I can confirm both machines are compatible.

Many Thanks

Question by: Ann on 7 Jun 2018 11:58:00
A: Hi Ann,

Yes, the Canon iX6850 will print onto card up to 300gsm thick, so this will be suitable for printing onto greeting cards. Take a look at our news post for more information on card printing and paper thickness - https://www.printerbase.co.uk/news/great-printers-printing-cards/

Q: Hi, I'm looking to use this printer for printing greeting cards that are square, 147mm x 147mm (5.7 x 5.7). The card i'll be using will be around 250gsm. Will this printer allow me to print this size kind of size and gsm thickness? Will this printer also print crisp (no smudge) wording? If not could you please advise what printer I am best using for my needs. Thanks
Question by: Georgia on 12 Jun 2018 11:26:00
A: Hi Georgia,

Thank you for your question.

I'm happy to say this printer would be compatible with the type of card you're trying to use. This printer supports up-to 300 gsm so that wouldn't be an issue, however you may need to manually set the paper size in the print settings/program in order to achieve the correct print size on the card, as it is an unusual size for most domestic printers. This cannon uses pigment ink for it's black which means text will come out clear and crisp, and dye for the colours so they will appear more vibrant. I believe this would be a good option for what you want to do.

Kind Regards,
Matthew

Excellent printer! I needed a printer that would print cardstock without a problem and this one does just that. No faffing around takes various different sizes up to A3, including the pre-cut cards I use. Really good quality as well I printed an A3 calendar on high-quality photo paper and the results were excellent first time, great colours. I am very impressed with this printer for the cost.
