Having had the printer for seven months now, I can only say good things about it. It prints quickly, it scans quickly, and the quality of both is great. The scan software makes sure that digitised documents are crisp and clear. Just one thing to be aware of is that A4 documents can only be scanned via the ADF. With my old device, I have never used the flatbed for A4 scans, so I knew this wouldn't be a problem with me on this printer. Bonus is that the ADF feed can duplex scan in one go.
This printer is not suitable for photos though! Again, I didn't buy it for that purpose. I do use professional camera gear, but I'm already to committed to printing photos by other methods. The pigment inks of this printer are not suitable for photos and the modest print resolution is not adequate photographs but sufficient for speed. I tested this on glossy photo paper and got the kind of results I expected. This printer is suited to business/office use with document graphics which is perfect for my needs.
In all these months my ink levels have barely moved since charging the ink reservoirs during installation.
I use Canon's remote features from time to time which also works well but is quite confusing to set up. If I'm away from home for a week or so I print a small test page to help prevent nozzle clogs caused by dried ink. I'm not confident to have ink-based printers unused for prolonged times. With ink tank printers, occasional printing is not a problem because the ink lasts so long; I'm more concerned about replenishing paper supplies!
A great printer. Just have to make sure it fits your purpose before buying.
