Canon MAXIFY GX7050 A4 Colour Multifunction Inkjet Printer

This is the second Canon printer I have purchased so had no hesitation in upgrading and purchasing another one. The biggest issue was that that Canon have so many models, which one would meet my small business printing needs. I am delighted with the print quality on all kinds of paper. The fact that it is a real multi-tasker is a bonus, Print, Scan and Fax (For which I only have an occasional need these days) Filling with ink is a clean, easy process and the ink level observation windows in the front of the printer take the guesswork out of knowing when to replace the four inks touch screen is clear and informative. I must also praise Printerbase for the useful pre-purchase advice and recommendations as well as their prompt next day delivery service using a reliable delivery company.

I'm really pleased with this printer/scanner - impressive print speed, good scan quality, and connectivity (my last printer kept losing connection to my wifi). Tank ink means much less consumable cost too.

Setting it up was easy, clever system of introducing ink - impossible to get the colours wrong and only an idiot could spill any. Very good value. However in actual use it has a really silly flaw. All my recent printers have a stand-by mode so if left inactive they remain available to print from my tablet, phone, or laptop wherever we are in the house with only the tiniest consumption of electricity. The Canon switches itself off....totally, so it's necessary to go up to the office to boot it up making it virtually useless for occasional printing. Silly Canon!

This printer excels at business printing on plain paper. Its 'draft' setting is perfectly good enough for routine daily printing (I run a small business from home and use this setting for packing notes, mailing labels, and so on), with 'best' great for professional looking output (brochures, menus, etc – I use this setting for printing items that are part of products I sell). Time to first print is a little slow, but overall it happily prints away reasonably quietly. Some things to note: the paper trays are limited to plain paper in the range 65-105gsm. The rear tray purports to be genuine Canon paper only, but appears to be perfectly happy with all manner of paper stocks from different manufacturers. I find that the best plain paper printing comes from setting the rear tray to 'high resolution inkjet paper'. Output on photo paper will not match a 6 or 8 colour printer but is fine for photos for family and friends. There does not appear to be a way to set ICC profiles on a Mac for this printer, which has led me to need to do some manual colour correction on some images. (Airprint printing is very convenient but the printer driver settings are limited to those on a PC). This printer does not have a borderless setting which makes it slightly harder to perfectly line up double-sided printing. I was spending a fortune on ink for my previous printer and expect this to cover its costs in approximately 14 months of use. I understand that the ink tank technology is best where printers are used regularly; I print on most working days so this isn't a problem for me. Duplex scanning is great and fast, but the scan quality is not as high as that from the flatbed. First-rate service from Printerbase who I will use again in future, though it's going to be a few months before I need to buy ink.

It is reasonably fast for an inkjet printer, although it can take quite a long time to produce the first page of a document. Good quality document prints. (Have yet to try printing many photos) It takes quite a while to set up, and download various software. I had no issues with the set up process and it seemed to work fine once configured. Key Differences between the 7050 and 6050 models 1) Duplex scanning 2) Two Cassette Paper Trays rather than One – making the 7050 a bit taller 3) Fax functionality [Not used] 4) Cost Points to Note 1) I have A5 paper in tray 1 and A4 paper in tray 2. Other sizes e.g. 6 x 4 can be handled via the rear tray. 2) The ADF duplex scan function reads both sides of the paper simultaneously and is very quick. 3) This is noisier than my previous Canon Multi-function (which died after 11 years.) 4) The scanning software and PDF management software has a more graphical interface than that of the Canon MP Navigator software which came with older Canon multi-functions, but still does most of the same things. 5) The PDF management software does not work with PDFs generated elsewhere. I am uncertain if this is true in all cases or just some cases. 6) This unit has a high initial cost, and a much lower cost of ink relative to printers using small ink cartridges. Unless you print high volumes, it will take some years before the average cost per page looks cheap. I’m gambling that the printer will last the course. 7) The guarantee can be extended to three years at no extra cost. 8) My printer is connected to the router via ethernet review. I think that this enables faster printing than is possible when the printer is connected via Wi-Fi. 9) I have not tried using the USB connection for printing. 10) It does not have an SD card slot. 11) Printerbase support seems good.

Easy to set up. Quick and good quality printing. Huge ink and paper capacity - more printing and less filling!

Fast and communicative delivery. Printer seems excellent, all functioning as advertised. Only a few weeks in so no where near discovering ink efficiency but quality is good and it’s reasonably quick. Scanning also great.

Hard to judge a brand new printer which has hardly been used, but setup was very straightforward and it seems to work. Canon ink is outrageously expensive, so we're trying compatible ink which seems fine so far. Excellent service from Printerbase.

Good machine and super compact

Great quality printing. Assume will be economical from specifications, not had long enough to really know. I hadn't realised it didn't do automatic A5 double sided printing though which is a shame since our specials menus are on A5 paper.
