Customer Questions & Answers
Q: Can you use compatable toners with this printer
Question by: Les Pearson on 20 Feb 2018 21:27:00
Thank you for contacting Printerbase.
Yes we do sell compatible toner cartridges for this machine. These are listed on the product page under the consumables section (link below).
I bought this as an upgrade from my B430 mono LED Printer. Delivery was the usual prompt service from Printerbase (though the courier struggled with it...). Setup was fairly easy, although the Guide was not as clear as it could have been; everything was done with diagrams which weren't always as clear as they might have been.
I bought this to get the wireless as well as wired network capability; I was disappointed to find I couldn't have both at once, and setting up the wireless interface is difficult at best; I still don't have it up and running. Thank heaven for Ethernet. I got the fax capability whether I wanted it or not - and I really can't be bothered to run many metres of phone extension just for the very occasional need for a fax, so no comment as to its capability.
Print, scan and copy definition are excellent, though some photos have emerged quite a bit darker than my Canon inkjet produces. I do like OKI's separate toner cartridge method, rather than having to buy an unnecessary new drum each time. Both scanning and printing are smooth and reasonably quick for an entry-level machine.
Software installation was straightforward with the usual Windows installer. I was a little surprised to find no Linux driver available as there was on the B430, but the generic Linux Postscript driver seems to work well enough. There is a dedicated Linux scanner driver on the OKI website.
Overall this a nice, capable, introductory all-in-one. Suitable for the home user, it would also cope well with a small business environment, provided you don't want bigger than A4. The poor setup guide and difficulty with the wi-fi setup are what stop it from getting a five-star rating, because the scan and print quality, and its ease of use, are excellent
