HP LaserJet Pro 4202dw A4 Colour Laser Printer

After owning a variety of printers over the years, both inkjets and lasers, I found myself in need of a new printer. I have been looking at colour lasers for a while, and know that HP is a reputable brand. I needed a printer to print day to day documents, letters and occasional posters and marketing materials for my small business, which needed to be high quality. When the printer arrived I found the box quite large, and a little tricky to lift. I lifted the box to where I wanted to locate the printer, to make the unboxing easier. The printer was well packaged, and was easy to remove. The toners were already in the printer, so there was no unnecessary packaging to dispose of. The box also contained power leads for both the UK and EU, an Ethernet cable to connect to a network, and documentation. I immediately realised that the location I chose for the printer was not right next to the plug socket. But HP didn’t disappoint, and the cable reached easily. I did not use the Ethernet, as although the cable would reach my router I wanted to make the most of the WIFI capabilities and not have excess cables around. The setup was fairly easy, and I didn’t really need to refer to the setup guide at all. The setup is using a dial on the top of the printer. Sometimes the dial was tricky to land on the correct option. Setup in total only took a few minutes, especially as there was no need to install the toners. I connected to my network using the WPS which I’ve never done before. I installed the HP smart app on my phone, as that was what I would be using the most. After the initial setup I switched the printer off rather than using standby. When restarting it later on, it didn’t immediately connect to the network. It took a little bit of experimentation and checking through the documentation to reconnect it. Since that first time it seems to start up and connect ok. In fact, as I’m writing this my teenager has connected her own phone to print out homework and revision pages! Although her first attempt she set print size to 6 x 4 instead of A4, so there’s plenty of flexibility. For me, it does the job. I can print out large documents quickly and double sided. I can also print out leaflets and posters to a high quality when I need them. It does have quite a large footprint on my desk, but it’s not much larger than other printers I’ve had, and is very compact. Time will tell how consistent the quality is, but for now it’s certainly a good addition to my home office.

The printer was packed very well and safely. The set also includes a USB cable and instructions in several languages. Initial setup and connection to your computer is very easy. There are several quick templates for printing, e.g. for writing sheet music. You can print from USB or from a computer and phone via the HP smart application. The application shows the toner level. The printer is a bit noisy and heavy, but it prints very quickly and clearly. I am very pleased with the purchase and recommend it to everyone.

My first impression when the box arrived was that it was much bigger than I wanted, but once unboxed it proved to be a much more reasonable size! After plugging in, the set-up was straightforward using the dial, and within minutes I was connected to the WiFi and ready to go. The print quality is very good, connection simple, and speed of printing will satisfy the heaviest of users. It also does it all at a very reasonable noise level. And to add that it also looks good, the blue panels adding a stylish touch. The only downside is the difficult to remove sticker advertising HP's ink service, which leaves a revenue when peeled back.

I picked up the HP 4202DW laser printer for my home office as I was looking for a fast, reliable, and high quality printer for my home office - on all accounts the printer has met and exceeded my expectations. If you're looking for a compact, functional laser printer without the bells and whistles I'd highly recommend the HP 4202DW. Setup - The printer arrived securely packaged and fully assembled. Once connected to the power supply, setup was done in 5 minutes and I was able to connect it to my wi-fi and start printing without the need of an app or computer and the generic drivers built into my android device worked like a charm. The toner came pre-installed in the printer which also aided a quick start up. Typical use - The printer is larger and heavier than almost all ink jets. Because it doesn't shy away from taking up space, it has the advantage of an substantial and fully internal paper tray. Once a page prints it sits neatly on top of the printer, so the printer is always ready to print. The printer doesn't come with a scanner, however I have no issue just using my phone camera, which tends to be faster and easier to organise. Printing This printer is very fast! Whether in colour or black and white, pages print in under 2 seconds. When initiating a print job, it was noticeably louder than an ink jet, but certainly wasn't an issue in a typical home office setup. I always print over WiFi and I've yet to have any issue. Connectivity has been rock solid and consistently reliable. HP include on the box that it has technology to help maintain a WiFi connection. Whatever they're doing, it works! If you're looking for a no frills, good value ink jet that nails the basics, is quick to set up and is reliable, the HP 4202DW is for you!  

The HP laser jet pro 4202dw colour A4 printer is really easy to set up, apart from one tiny thing - the wheel you use to enter your WiFi password is so sensitive! It took my husband 2 tries before he gave up and got me to do it. Basically you have to keep twisting the dial through the alphabet and numbers, pressing the dial down to lock in each digit. Sounds easy enough but the dial is very sensitive and we kept getting wrong digits and having to go back and correct them. Once we had done it finally, we lost it all and had to start again- twice! But as I say, other than that it was really easy! I printed a test page from my phone and husband printed from his computer, and both pages came through fast and quietly, and the print quality was excellent. All in all a great printer and just the right size for what we need. I’ve since managed to print several other documents and all came out perfectly . The only thing I’m still struggling with is connecting the printer to my work laptop - it can’t seem to find out for some reason!

I have used mostly inkjet printers for many years, but this is the first time I've used a colour laser printer. I was a bit sceptical at first, thinking for the price I paid, that this can't be that good. Boy, was I wrong! The box it arrived in was huge! Upon opening I was greeted with very thick polystyrene protection. Once I had got it out, I realised the printer was not as big as the box led me to believe. It is bigger than most inkjets, but it sits very neatly on my desk, and looks very smart and business-like, with an off-white colour and nice blue contrast to the front paper tray/toner access door. The setup procedure was a bit fiddly. I opted to use the on-screen controls on the printer to set up the WiFi etc, and came across my first criticism: the control wheel and screen are awful. Very slow wheel which needed almost a full turn for each item on a menu! However, once setup, it found a firmware upgrade which totally fixed it! Well done HP. Once on the network (You can choose WiFi or Ethernet, or even USB), my PC didn't find the printer at first, but a quick reboot of the printer soon sorted that. It doesn't come with any software, but it's a fairly small download and it installed very quickly. As it is just a printer and not scanner as well, it doesn't need much software, just a driver package. In use, the printer is very quick, spitting the print out as fast it takes to push the paper through, a far cry from the delay I get when printing with inkjet. For business use, the quality is astounding. Very crisp, sharp text with nice, vivid colours for graphics. For photos, the limitations of lasers shows up. It does an OK job, but the colours are not the most accurate and it doesn't cope too well with darker gradients, such as shadows. Don't get me wrong, it's fine, and in a pinch, you could frame the images and most people wouldn't notice. But when compared to an inkjet (using proper photo paper), the difference is night and day. That isn't what this printer is for though. And for office use, and the occasional image, I cannot find fault. One feature I particularly appreciate is the duplex capability. When printing both sides, it prints, pulls the paper back and does the other side so much faster than I expected. Not experienced a single jam yet either. It comes with toners good for around 1000 prints, a usb and power cable. All in all, I am really glad I went for this, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

This is an excellent colour laser printer with good features, footprint and - most importantly - print quality. It is smaller than I initially anticipated and is easily accommodated in my home office. The print speed is very fast (over 30 ppm) and works seamlessly via Wi-Fi, allowing easy printing from computers and mobile devices. Print quality is excellent, with sharp text and vibrant colours. Installation was straightforward and I am very pleased that it supports duplex printing (something lacking on my last device) that helps save time. I am also impressed with capacity of the included cartridges and would happily recommend this machine to anyone looking for a reliable and high-quality colour laser printer.

HP have a solid reputation for printers and the LaserJet Pro 4202dw holds that up well. It’s a simple but attractively designed printer with a fairly premium build quality. Though it’s not quite as compact as I imagined and it’s quite heavy. Setup was incredibly easy, just answering a couple of questions on the LED panel, inputting my Wi-Fi credentials and then Windows installs the drivers. It was up and ready to print in minutes. There are some starter toners pre-installed which give a yield of approximately 1,200 pages. Replacement toners are quite expensive, as HP uses technology to accept only HP branded toners. So this needs to be considered when working out running costs. I tested various media from plain copy paper, glossy 180gm, envelopes and labels. I was incredibly impressed with the speed and quality of the output. I printed a full A4 photo on the glossy paper and compared it to my premium inkjet printer and they were incredibly close in detail and colour reproduction. I didn’t expect that, and it shows just how good laser printers have evolved to be just as good as their inkjet counterparts in quality, whilst giving you a 35ppm print speed. I liked the 2 paper trays, with one used as a manual feeder for many different paper sizes and envelopes. I also appreciated the incredibly fast automatic two-sided printing, quiet operation and 50 second start up time. There’s even an option to print lined paper, graph paper, music sheets and checklists, that look incredible. A Couple of critiques though. Firstly the input dial spins too freely, meaning you keep flying past the menu item you want. This can be quite frustrating. The screen is bright but quite basic. In conclusion, this is an exceptionally good laser printer which is fast and produces excellent quality printouts. I do highly recommend it.

It stores away neatly many sheets of paper in the bottom panel and is so simple to insert the paper it also reminds you when the paper is running low which is a handy feature too. The printer is very easy to set up with a press button dial to access all of the settings, the printer came with the toner inks already installed and if you sign up to HP ink plan you get 2 free months that allows upto 3000 free prints in your first 2 months with no charge , you can cancel the plan at anytime also. Overall I’m very happy with this printer , it’s my first laser printer and I’ve been after one for some time. Highly recommended great quality printer for personal or business use.
