The HP Color LaserJet Enterprise 4701dn is an A4 colour laser printer built for busy office workgroups that need dependable, professional-quality output. It prints colour and mono at up to 33 pages per minute, with the first black page out in 5.8 seconds and the first colour page in 6.4. Automatic two-sided printing comes as standard, cutting paper use without slowing jobs down. A 2.7" colour touchscreen gives quick access to settings and print jobs.

Paper handling grows with the team. Out of the box, the 4701dn holds 300 sheets across a 50-sheet multipurpose tray and a 250-sheet cassette, with a 150-sheet output bin. Add up to two optional HP 550-sheet trays (BV1G1A) and capacity rises to 1,400 sheets. It handles media from 60 to 200 g/m², including card, labels, envelopes and glossy stock. The printer is rated for up to 100,000 pages a month, and HP recommends 1,600 to 4,200 pages a month for everyday use.

Connectivity covers Gigabit Ethernet and Hi-Speed USB as standard, plus mobile printing through Apple AirPrint and Mopria. Two optional accessories extend this: the HP JetDirect 3200w (9R1U0A) adds Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth, and the HP JetDirect LAN Accessory (8FP31A) adds a second network connection. Security is where the Enterprise range stands apart. HP Wolf Security checks the firmware on start-up and recovers from attacks on its own, and the firmware integrity check is quantum-resistant. It also includes a TPM 2.0 chip and encrypted storage. HP Security Manager lets IT teams enforce policy across the whole fleet. HP FutureSmart firmware updates keep adding features over the printer’s life.

The 4701dn uses HP 240A toner cartridges, rated at around 2,300 pages for black and 2,000 for each colour. For higher volumes, HP 240X cartridges give around 9,000 pages for black and 6,900 for each colour. A full set of introductory cartridges comes in the box, so the printer is ready to use straight away. It is ENERGY STAR and Blue Angel certified, with typical electricity use of 0.339 kWh per week, and comes with HP’s one-year onsite warranty. This printer uses HP Dynamic Security and is only intended to be used with cartridges using an HP original chip. Cartridges using a non-HP chip may not work, and those that work today may not work in the future.
