For HP inkjet printers, first look for the ink cartridge access panel or door. This will usually be on the front just above the paper output tray or the printer lid or cover, depending on your printer model.
• Make sure the printer is turned ON.
• Open the front cover just above the output tray or or lift the top cover.
• The ink cartridges should move into position for replacement.
• Press down the ink cartridge or tab in front of the holder until you hear a click.
• Remove the ink cartridge from the cartridge holder.
• Unpack the new ink cartridge and gently tear off protective tape.
• Insert the new ink cartridge and push in to snap in place.
• Close the ink cartridge cover or lid to start new ink calibration.
• Check the LCD screen for further instructions or wait until the printer stops calibrating.
For HP refillable Ink Tank or Smart Tank printers, these printers use ink bottles so there is no need to change the ink cartridge. The tanks are visible on the front or side of the printer depending on your model.
• Look for the minimum and maximum fill lines on the tanks.
• If the remaining ink level is below the maximum but above the minimum fill line, there is no need to refill the ink tank.
• If the remaining ink level is below the minimum fill line, you will need to refill the ink tank.
• Open the access door or lift the printer cover or lid to access to tank and covers.
• Open the specific tank cover for ink tank(s) you need to refill.
• Remove the ink tank cap of the specific tank to be refilled.
• Unscrew the new ink bottle cap, remove the seal, then replace the cap.
• Align the ink bottle to the tank inlet and let the ink drain into the tank. Do not squeeze the ink bottle.
• When the tank is full, recap the ink tank inlet with its cap.
• Repeat this process for any other ink tanks that require filling.
• Ink levels above the maximum fill line can result in leaks which may damage your printer.
• Close the ink tank cover and scanner unit or cover and check the LCD screen for further instructions.
For HP laser printers, the toner cartridge door is either on the front or under the top cover depending on your model.
• Make sure the printer is turned OFF.
• Open the toner cartridge door on the front or top cover.
• Pull out the toner drawer and lifting the toner cartridge upwards or just pull out the toner cartridge depending on you printer model.
• Remove your new toner cartridge from its packaging carefully.
• Hold the ends of the new toner cartridges and rock it 5 or 6 times to redistribute the toner evenly.
• Locate and remove the cartridge protective cover or tape slowly.
• Replace the toner cartridge and close the cartridge door or printer’s top cover.
• Check the LCD screen for further instructions or wait for the printer to detect the toner.
