Apple macOS Printer Driver Support
Please note: Apple no longer provides support for printer driver updates through Apple Software Update (ASU) for most printer manufacturers anymore. You will either find these drivers directly from the printer manufacturers websites or use the Apple AirPrint feature if available on your printer.
Our advice: Make sure your next printer is AirPrint compatible, to avoid future printer driver issues.
For HP printers, you can find print drivers through the HP Software and Driver Downloads portal.
Alternatively, if your printer supports Apple AirPrint. Go to Printing with Apple AirPrint for more information on how to use this feature.
AirPrint Printers
AirPrint is an Apple technology that enables the user to print from any Apple device without the need to download or install printer drivers.
Please bear in mind, AirPrint sounds easy and simple but is also very basic with regards to print features and options available to the user when printing.
Out of the box, you will only be able to use the following:
As simple as Apple AirPrint is to use, not all printer driver features are available by default. You can only use the basics such as:
- Setting paper sizes
- Choosing what paper is in the printer
- What size to print (It will default to the paper size in the printer)
This is just a quick, simple solution to printing if you don’t need extra print options or features the full-featured print drivers offer.
The ideal solution though would be full feature printer driver support, rather than just the basic features in AirPrint. This may come over time, but we recommend checking for printer driver availability through the respective manufacturers.
How To Print Documents From Your Mac
Printing from Mac is usually simple and similar to Windows. There’s the option of “File -> Print” and the standard dialogue box opens up allowing options to be adjusted. Nothing on this has changed since updating from macOS Big Sur.
Airprint Supported Printers
Apple has built up an ever-growing list with all the AirPrint compatible printers. To check if a specific model is supported by this software, remember to press “Command – F (On Mac)” and type your model to save scrolling through the thousands of supported models.

what about 32-bit Canon printers?
Hi Sal.
Thank you for your comment.
macOS Monterey is incompatible with any 32-bit applications. Anything designed for this now would be 64-bit.
If you could let me know which printer model you have I could check the drivers for you. Alternatively, it should be compatible via Apple Airprint.
Hope this helps
Thank you

I am thinking of buying an Epson EcoTank ET-2800. Would this printer/scanner system be compatible with my Monterey 12.7.3 MacOS?
Hi Manuel
Thank you for your question, the Epson EcoTank ET-2800 can connect to macOS Monterey no problem, just needs the drivers downloading from the Epson website!
