Back in 2020, we worked with Northlight Images to review the Canon PIXMA PRO-200 photo printer. This has now been improved on with the new Canon PIXMA PRO-200S. Notably, the new model includes some great refinements and quality-of-life updates. In this blog post, we’ll explore the differences, and see if it’s worth upgrading your printer.

Changes To The Printer Body:

To begin with, the Canon PIXMA PRO-200S keeps the same weight and dimensions as its predecessor. The only change, however, is the addition of “S” on the name badge.

Enhanced Security and Wireless Features

  • Wi-Fi (wireless) now connects to the strongest signal available, which means the printer will reduce interference and maintain a stable connection even in different rooms.

Environmental Considerations

Keeping in line with Canons aim to achieve carbon net 0 by 2050, alongside the goal of becoming a circular business. The Canon PIXMA PRO-200S comes in completely recyclable, cardboard packaging.

Software Features

Furthermore, the Canon PIXMA PRO-200S simplifies media configuration, making it effortless to add new paper types and their corresponding ICC Profiles. The software comes pre-installed with profiles for Canon genuine paper and Canon feed confirmed paper. However, when new supported paper types are added or updated, any relevant information can be downloaded and synced with the printer.

Also, Canon has improved its support for the PIXMA PRO-200 with the Canon Professional Print & Layout software. This tool, in particular, streamlines the printing process by providing:

  • Accurate Colour Matching: For vibrant and accurate photos
  • Optimized ICC Profiles: Providing easy access to ICC profiles for all paper types
  • Cost-Per-Print Calculator: An easy way to estimate how much a print will cost, including ink usage and paper type

Will the Canon PIXMA PRO-200 Be Discontinued?

At this moment in time, the Canon PIXMA PRO-200 is still available. However, once stock has been sold, it will be discontinued.

Canon PIXMA PRO-200S Verdict

To answer the question “Is the Canon PIXMA PRO-200S worth it” is simple. If you want to replace your old printer, or start printing your high-quality photos, yes. The Canon PIXMA PRO-200S is worth it. However, if you currently have a Canon PIXMA PRO-200 in full working order, we wouldn’t say upgrading to the new model would be worth it.
