In the March 2010 edition of PC Advisor(issue 176), which is in the shops now, they gave awards to the top products passing through their Test Centre in the last year. Awards were given to a whole range of products, including cameras, laptops, smartphones, but in the printer sections the awards went to the following:

Total Cost of Ovwnership (TCO)

Understanding TCO
When purchasing a printer, consumers tend to look at the price tag in front of them and do not consider other varaibles that accumulate during the life of the printer such as consumables. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is a method of calculating both the direct and hidden cost of a printer purchase.
For example if you were a small business or home office that printed on average 500 mono pages a month, to work out the TCO you would calculate how much toner and consumables you would go through in the life of the printer (average 3 years) and add that to the initial pruchase price.

Ok that is a very basic method of calculating TCO but for a more detailed TCO calculator contact us at Printerbase and we will compare the running costs of any printer you are going to purchase.
The general rule of thumb is the more expensive the printer the cheaper it will be to run. This is not necessarily the truth there are many factors that need to be considered but one thing we know through our experience is that a low-cost printer dosent stay low-cost for long. An example of this can be seen below:

Windows 7 Compatible Printers

Following the release of Microsoft Windows 7 we are starting to get quite a few enquiries from people asking if a printer or multifunction printer is compatible with Windows 7.

Well the quick answer is that most of all the current printers we sell are compatible with Windows 7 with a download of the driver from the manufacturers website, however we have recently come across a few machines that are not compatible with Windows 7 and in particularly the 64bit version. If you can’t find information on your printer from the links below let us know and we will check the status for you.

Most manufacturers state that new printers will not ship with Windows 7 drivers in the box unitl 2010, so for the time being drivers will have to downloaded, which is not a bad thing as often the drivers supplied in box can be out of date with the latest version available online.

It is a different story for older printers and multifunctions, with manufacturers concentrating on getting drivers written for all their current models, the older models have been given less of priority but the drivers are slowly becoming available but it is possible they won’t supply drivers for all their previous machines.

Lexmark launches new inkjet printers

Lexmark have launched a new line of eight multifunction inkjet printers designed for small to medium-sized businesses.

The range includes Lexmarks first Web-connected printers and claim to have the lowest black printing cost in the inkjet industy.
