NEW: Ricoh SPC240dn and SPC242dn Colour A4 Laser Printers

Sunday, November 20th, 2011

Ricoh have launched two new affordable colour laser printers, the SPC240dn and SPC242dn. Although identical to look at, there are several differences between the two models, which we’ll look at now:

Model SPC240DN
SPC242DN
Print Speed 16ppm 20ppm
Duplex Yes Yes
Network Yes Yes
Memory 64MB 256MB
Processor 220MHz 400MHz
Printer

& PostScript 3
Available Toner Yields 2,300 pages 2,300 / 6,000 pages

The key reason for buying the more expensive Ricoh SPC242dn is for the higher yield toners that make the machine cheaper to run. Also, users working with Apple Mac machines, should consider a PostScript printer for a more reliable experience.

Dell seem to be going through a total refresh with yet another new machine surfacing. The Dell 3335dn offers users high-speed print, high resolution output, network and double-sided print/copy/scan/fax functionality. One important mention is the amazing 12.8cm colour touch screen, which really sets this machine apart from the competition. The Dell 3335dn is ideal for users looking for a machine that does it all, while at the same time being easy-to-use.

NEW: Dell 5350dn Mono Laser Printer

If you’re looking for something even faster than the Dell 5230dn then make way for the 5350dn! The 5350dn is very similar to the 5230dn but has a print speed of 48ppm (rather than 43ppm), a 500-sheet tray as standard (rather than 250-sheet tray) and a slightly higher duty cycle.

The same 7,000 page low yield toner will fit in both Dell machines, however, the high yield toners are different. The 5250dn takes a 21,000 page high yield toner whereas the 5350dn takes a 30,000 page high yield toner for around the same price, which makes the Dell 5350dn 30% cheaper to run!

PC Pro A List: Dell 5230dn Mono Laser Printer

Sunday, October 23rd, 2011

Dell are the new kings of cool thanks to their excellent 5230dn mono laser printer. Dell’s quoted print speed of 43ppm is no sweat according to PC Pro, since in their tests the machine managed a remarkable 44ppm using the 2400IQ print resolution setting! As with most printers, selecting the top resolution (1200dpi resolution setting) does bring the print speed down but PC Pro felt that the print quality in the 2400IQ was clean and sharp so didn’t see a reason to use the higher resolution setting.

The good news doesn’t end there. They liked how the Dell 5230dn machine accepted an extra three 550-sheet drawers, an envelope feeder and a 2,000-sheet feeder. If you purchase the Dell 5230dn, PC Pro does advise that users opt for the 21,000 page toner cartridge to get the very best running cost. This goes without saying but they do point out that the lower yield toners are particularly expensive per page.

PC Pro also pointed out that other accessories are available and the level of advanced security available makes this machine suitable for even the most demanding user. In fact, they tell us that the Dell 5230dn is their “new favourite network laser printer”.
